{"id":11,"date":"2008-04-10T15:49:54","date_gmt":"2008-04-10T20:49:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/msmichetti.edublogs.org\/2008\/04\/10\/cc-new-media-in-the-everyday-lives-of-youth\/"},"modified":"2008-04-10T15:49:54","modified_gmt":"2008-04-10T20:49:54","slug":"cc-new-media-in-the-everyday-lives-of-youth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/adriennemichetti.com\/blog\/2008\/04\/10\/cc-new-media-in-the-everyday-lives-of-youth\/","title":{"rendered":"CC: New Media in the Everyday Lives of Youth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/weblog\/entry\/8192\">This article<\/a> from the lovely <a href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/weblog\">Creative Commons Blog<\/a> caught my eye today, particularly because the forum aims to look at &#8220;how digital technologies and new media are changing the way that young people learn, play, socialize and participate in civic life.&#8221;\u00a0 Definitely cool (and no surprise that it&#8217;s being hosted at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stanford.edu\">Stanford<\/a>, either).\u00a0\u00a0 However, I am rather curious.\u00a0 They say that proposed topics include:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<li>Teen Socialization Practices in Networked Publics<\/li>\n<li>Understanding New Media in the Home<\/li>\n<li><font color=\"#ff0000\">Hip Hop Music and Meaning in the Digital Age<\/font><\/li>\n<li>New Media from a Youth Perspective<\/li>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>(emphasis mine)<\/p>\n<p>I feel like this is one of those segments on Sesame Street:\u00a0 &#8220;One of these things is not like the other.&#8221;\u00a0 Socialization and networks &#8211; OK.\u00a0 New media in the home and from a youth perspective &#8211; OK.\u00a0\u00a0 Hip Hop Music and Meaning &#8211; huh?\u00a0 This stands out rather unusually to me.\u00a0 My questions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Why hip hop?\u00a0 Why not other genres of music?\u00a0 Or maybe there is another topic:\u00a0 &#8220;Classical Music and Meaning in the Digital Age: from Chopin to Garage Band&#8221;?<\/li>\n<li>Why only music?\u00a0 Why not video,\u00a0television,\u00a0and podcasts? (although perhaps these are the other &#8220;new media&#8221;)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Anyone else?<\/p>\n<h3 class='related_post_title'>Like this?
