Readers who come to Times articles through links from search, blogs and social media like Facebook and Twitter will be able to read those articles, even if they have reached their monthly reading limit. For some search engines, users will have a daily limit of free links to Times articles.

So… here is what I’m thinking. I’m thinking I can “hack” the NYTimes by simply setting up Google alerts and following NYT on Twitter and Facebook.

Really, really unhappy about this news. What a disappointment.

I’m not going to pay $15/month *just* to read it on my iPhone.

Sigh.

  1. My aunt and uncle are paper subscribers so they have free access online but looking at the email they received it looks like it only covers reading on your computer and via the iPad app.

  2. If you are a home delivery subscriber of The New York Times, you will continue to have full and free access to our news, information, opinion and the rest of our rich offerings on your computer, smartphone and tablet.

  3. Oops I meant to add to that – I *think* that announcement means that they can view on any device. Sorry – I guess I ended up just copy/pasting and hitting "post" too quickly! eep.

  4. Starting March 28, The New York Times will begin charging for unlimited access to NYTimes.com and our NYTimes apps — but, as a Times Reader subscriber, you will get unlimited access* to NYTimes.com and the NYTimes app for iPad® included in your subscription.
